Dr. Alejandro Manzano Marín

I am currently a Marie Skłodowska-Curie IF Postdoctoral researcher studying the genomics and metabolic interactions between strict blood-feeding leeches and their obligate nutritional bacteria. I approach this through the use of genomics (genome sequencing -> annotation), genome-based metabolic inference, microscopy, and phylogenetics. I studied my undergrad in Genomic Sciences at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and did my Masters and PhD work at the Cavanilles Institute for Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology (ICBiBE, University of Valencia).
I am also working on projects related to the evolution of new obligate nutrition-based associations between bacteria and their aphid hosts, with a special focus of the evolution of new co-obligate (multi-partner) associations.
